where to find free software

Ever felt like I’ve been on a journey where I’ve literally gone looking for a famous map in a beautiful location and there are times when I’ve literally gone looking for resources to find the trail? Not one time have I been able to find anything relevant. 1 2 3

I’ve been like that with figuring out how to use the Virtual Co-Developer at Github. I’ve tried everything there’s been to do with dev programming. There have been coding lessons in coding to coding lessons in dev coding. I’ve tried, written a few code snippets, written a dozen posts, sent off and back. Nothing has really made a dent in me because I’ve never really felt I’ve been gaining.

That got me to the point where I’ve been doing some research I’ve realized there are a lot of really cool things to come out of this. Of course, I know there’s no guarantee with anything but I think trying to do something you’re new to and it looking for a shortcut somehow helps. I feel I’m staying on the journey, maybe not going in the right direction, but to me, it feels like I’m still going.

With the MOOC on Github, I’ve been able to try and apply the platform’s tools in my own projects. Although I still wasn’t actually able to participate on any projects due to pretty much EVERYTHING being hit by the pandemic and all but 25 seats being worked from home/stranded for the foreseeable future. That being said, all these things are actually super helpful too. I was able to try and implement 3D objects and then work with a research team to try and come up with a way to actually accomplish that. The still mostly feels like a general learning experience for me.

I used to think that the teacher was more focused on academia and writing. I had more of an idea that there was a part written by teachers that could be good to refer to. I think that’s all most teachers are willing to provide. I think that’s a direct result of not having high levels of appreciation for the technical literacy required to create the modules that get put into these courses. So, to all the teachers out there, and to the MBAs I might add. Yes, we are your peers. Please consider this as a slap on the face because I know many professional writers will bristle at the very thought.

The problem with the community is not as much in how to address it, but how to adequately address the problem. Have a better internet policy. Not having both a real and virtual network is ridiculous. Currently, you can’t be connected to your work even when you’re in our homes, or at the office. Not having a virtual network is the absolute norm. A decentralized network. Blockchain. Virtualization. Agile software development. It’s all been a puzzle to me for some time now.

People need to learn that there’s more to our modern world than just written code. Even the academy tends to understand code-writing better than anything else. This definitely included the MBA community. Not enough formal development modules in their curricula. This is extremely restrictive, especially when it comes to coding and programming, and yet I have not been able to find a definitive mechanism to interact with it as a community. I could talk about travel, health, education, IT, and every other aspect of contemporary life and society, but the reality is that our best minds are working and thinking in isolation.

You have to grab hold of the here and now and love the complexity of that complexity. To me, learning new technologies is a part of that.
